Stairway Concept for Improved Visual Interaction

A first year design project about stairs, connections and the beauty of spontaneous interactions. The main feature of this design is the stationary pitstop at the midpoint of the stairs that link the steps coming from underground to the steps coming down from the station. The cacoon-like structure at the mid-point grows out onto the upper platform allowing the people from above to look down and see the people coming up and for the people below to see above creating a place for visual interaction. This adds an element of spontaneity to the daily lives of commuters who would have otherwise spent their communion in isolation.

The image is a concept elevation of how the stairs would work.
